The character shown in this logo known as 
"the Plan 12 angel" follows the simple backstory
He was an angel sent from heaven to be a kernel
for the Plan 12 system.
He saw how much work Unix was doing
He did not want to work for 50 years without break

so he hired the bootstrap to do the bare minimum of his job for him (paid minimum wage)
He allowed processes bare metal I/O
And he rested on a wall for all of eternity.
